Professional Experiences & Goals

My company, Competira, focuses on written and oral business communication. I specialize in developing and editing both internal and external documents, including web content, form letters, proposals, and presentations. I also assist businesses with their face-to-face networking efforts.

Since 2002, I served as a freelance writer and marketing consultant for various businesses and individuals, including website design and development companies, brokerage firms, independent artists, and publishing corporations. My clients represented a tremendous variety of businesses, and I was, therefore, exposed to a range of topics and assignments covering everything from assisting a budding artist promote his first exhibition to writing an article about economic capital for the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Prior to that, I was Director of Interactive Media at Livewire Communications, where I supervised a staff of six programmers and designers; assisted with the conception and execution of all projects by managing site production and communicating strategies, ideas, and changes to both staff members and clients; and, ensured that both the clients’ and the department’s budgets remained on track. Clients included The Volunteer Center of Alachua County/Volunteer Gateway, San Felasco Nurseries, the Alachua County Department of Waste Management, Scarborough Insurance, and National Parts Depot.

I also have extensive experience in the medical field, which I gained while working as a communications coordinator for SHANDS Healthcare. There, I served as a liaison between medical professionals and marketing executives, wrote and edited articles for both medical and lay audiences, developed content for brochures and in-house marketing materials, and spearheaded the redesign and restructuring of the SHANDS Healthcare website. Written pieces appeared in publications such as Physicians Practice Digest, The Gainesville Sun, and the SHANDS Healthcare Annual Report.
